FAQsWhat do you mean “pay by the run”? A run is like a mini session. A run is when the cyclist gets in the tunnel and aerodynamic data is collected. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes. The Speed Tunnel™ offers run package deals including the Three-Run Pro Series and the Five-Run Elite Series. Pro athletes often do up to 10 runs in a session in an effort to optimize position, equipment and setup. The beauty of the Speed Tunnel™ is that the cyclist decides how much they want to invest in the process. Can gains be made by doing wind tunnel testing immediately before a race? Absolutely. Some of the biggest aerodynamic gains can be made by changing the rider’s position, not the bike. Changing something like the saddle height at a race would most likely be a mistake, but learning how to hold your head, position your chin, hold your hands, and where to sit on the saddle are some of the skills that can be analyzed and learned moments before a race and used to your advantage. Also, the benefits of new aero equipment and clothing can be tested on location and decisions can be made about same day or future purchases. How do I sign up for the Speed Tunnel™? First go to SpeedTunnel.net and to the Tour Schedule page. Then choose your city, click on your dealer or event, and then purchase a package. The package will have a date and a session start time. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your session start time for a short orientation and also to prepare your bike for testing. What will be done to my bike to prepare it for the Speed Tunnel™? The process is simple. The Speed Tunnel™ uses custom skewers that connect to the fixture that holds the bike in the tunnel. When you arrive at the Speed Tunnel™, your skewers will be removed and the proprietary Speed Tunnel™ skewers will be installed. This process takes only minutes. After your session is complete, your skewers will be reinstalled on your bike. If I buy a new accessory like an aero helmet, can I see the results in the Speed Tunnel™? Yes, immediately. Runs with and without the new helmet will show the benefit gained. How will I know how much faster I should go after spending some time in the Speed Tunnel™? After each run, you will get a personalized Aerodynamic Analysis Report. This report will show the grams of aerodynamic drag resistance. Each subsequent run will include the results from previous runs so that improvements in drag can be seen and measured. The back of each report has graphs and has easy-to-understand example problems. By knowing your grams of savings, it is easy to read the graphs and determine how the performance gains that may be achieved. There is also an iPhone Speed Tunnel™ app to help you understand your results that can be found on the App Store. |
